Stand alone letters

Letters (and a few numbers) are used to represent very high usage rate words in the ChuckLyn language. Most of these will be familiar to old users of Forkner shorthand and I have included a few new to replace the graphic symbols used by Forkner as they would be impossible to type on a standard keyboard.

The numbers 2, 4, and 8 are used for the words “two“, “four” and “eight” respectivly. Frequently you will find the these words imbedded in larger words. Just happily pop them in there without any fear they won’t be immedi8ly understood by the great unwashed. Now on to the good stuff:

LETTER MEANING

a = a, an

b = be, by, but

c = can

d = do

e = he

f = for

g = go, good, going

h = her

i = I, eye

l = all

m = me, my, mine

n = in, not

o = our, hour, out

p = put

q = question

r = are

s = his, is, us

t = it, to, the

u = you, under

v = of

/ = we

x = extra

y = why

@ = at

I’m holding the missing letters in reserve in case I need them.

My advice to you is don’t go crazy using these in the same sentence. This will help your brain select the correct meaning out of context when it reads a “stand alone“ letter that has multiple meanings.

Obviously, using stand alone letters would be foolish to use while posting on social media unless the meaning is widely understood. However, I do think those who need to take private notes, are keeping a diary or texting with a friend in a situation where keeping quiet is the right thing to do could find them useful.

FYI, I’m working on creating a ChuckLyn dictionary of the most highly used words in English language. The list of words I’m using came from an article written by Tom Cox and was published by Preply in 2025. The words are organize into groups of verb, nouns, adjectives etc. I’m currently focused on verbs and hope to post the list soon. If you like what I’m posting, please become a member. It’s easy and FREE.

Stay tuned.
